Morning Hayley - just wanted to drop a line to say thanks for everything! The lunch went perfectly - table was amazing, food was good, the song list you put together was just what I wanted (I still can't believe 'Tiny Dancer' came up at that exact moment - lol!), Rob was a great server and I appreciate the kitchen staff being good sports in playing along with my cheesy 'dessert prep' idea. :

Anyways - thanks again, Hayley! Thanks Penny! And thanks Chatterpaul's for making this day and this moment so very special!

Hello Penny,

I've been meaning to email you since the weekend, but it's my year end here at work!

I have to tell you that the service, meal, and atmosphere was the best!
You went well out of your way to take care of us after our reservation was missing.
I ended up getting the extra "Chatter Rib" leftover for my daughter... now she wants to come the next time!!

Thank you for an awesome evening! Both my wife and I needed it!

Cheers,
Kevin

Hi Penny,

Thank you for your note. We are considering ourselves to be the lucky ones. Chatterpaul's delights us with delicious, healthy choices which are always beautifully presented.....good for the body and soul. We don't go to restaurants very often because we love to cook and prefer wholesome food. It's a real treat for us to eat at Chatterpaul's where we are never disappointed.

Best wishes for you continued success.

The night was incredible. Craig, AWESOME! One of the best servers I have seen in a long time......! He was so knowledgeable, honest and attentive to our needs. He was patient and kind and super friendly. He knew exactly what to recommend from the menu, and was honest about flavors and style....I watched him a lot throughout the night and he was not stressed, or in the weeds at any time. He took such WONDERFUL care of us....I know its hard to find great servers....and you have one in him!!!!

The chef was incredible the foods to DIE for...OMG the flavors of my salmon were BURSTING in my mouth. I cannot wait to bring Family and Friends to your establishment!

As our host amazing. I loved the venue and I look forward to planning many more events to come.
I just couldn't believe the treatment we received....thank you again.

Hello Penny and Chad,

It was good hearing from you and for the opportunity to provide any suggestions or ideas regarding our family party last Sunday. Everyone had a wonderful time and no one has anything to suggest simply because we were all very pleased with the entire experience. For most of us it was our first visit and I know many of us will return in the future. Of course I will be coming to use my gift certificate. This is much appreciated.

Thanks for accommodating our group from 4pm when the restaurant opens at 5pm. I would also like to acknowledge all the help I received from Hayley. She was efficient and prompt in answering all inquiries.

I look forward to seeing you on my next visit.

Many thanks,
Yvette

We have just returned from our birthday celebration at Chatterpaul's. What a fabulous supper we had. The food was excellent, the desserts were divine and the service was courteous, friendly and professional. We no longer feel the need to go to Toronto to find a top-notch restaraunt - Chatterpaul's does it all and more!
Thanks Penny and Chad for a very memorable evening.
P.S. We also loved the upscale and tasteful decor - it make for a very warm atmosphere!

Hi Penny! It's me Stephanie from Rogers TV. I was the one chatting so much with you & Dallas on Daytime this week! So I went home with a jar of the key lime filling and I texted my Mom to bring home some graham cracker crumbs. I made 3 or 4 tarts with the little I took from the tub and MAN oh MAN!! Delicious! I don't know If I told you that I lived in Florida for a few years and key lime pie was almost like a state- wide competition to perfect. You guys kick the whole state's A**!!

My mom was even able to take one of the tarts to her client (she's a personal support worker) and they loved it too! Thanks so much to you & Dallas and Chad for letting me feel like a pastry chef for a night!

Hope to see you guys soon and maybe even for that cooking class on the 22nd of February. That's actually my birthday so I'm asking for a night out!

Talk to you soon Penny,

Hi Penny

I just wanted to thank you for your help with my dinner meeting on october 14, 2009. I have done a lot of these over the years, and I have to say, you and your staff made it easy. First of all your staff was wonderful - they knew my name and wer never far, even proactively asking me if everything was ok! Sounds simple, but you can't imagine how often that doesn't happen.

When I walked in on the Wednesday night and saw how busy it was, I got a little nervous about the sound system in the private room. Would we be able to hear each other, or would the rest of your customers hear us? I have to say, with about 30 physicians in the room, we heard each other perfectly, your sound system is great! I know I did ask if we were interfering with the other guests and was glad to hear that we weren't!

It would be my pleasure to host another event at your restaurant in the future.

Sincerely,

David Mitchell writes:

Penny,

The pleasure was all ours!

My better-half Shawna and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. We were pleasantly surprised when we received the bill. We dine quite often in Toronto and often receive significantly less value for the dollar.

As you may have noted, I work for Mill Street Brewery and we sell you our Organic Lager.

Thank you for a great meal and as well for your business!

Please do not hesitate to call upon me if I can ever be of any assistance.

Kindest Regards,

Hello Penny,

Just a note to say thank you for making the birthday party happen for my grandfather tonight!

Huge Success!

The service of the two waitresses that night was excellent and the food was amazing -as always. I complimented your chefs behind the counter too, before I left to tell them what a great job they did.

We really appreciate the use of the party room for our gathering.

I also want to thank you personally for the gift certificate. You really didn't have to do that, but nonetheless it is much appreciated.

We'll see you soon!

On Saturday evening my husband and I enjoyed an incredible meal at Chatterpaul's. Prior to the meal, we were served a chef's sampler which included a shooter glass filled with soup. We were told this was cream of garlic soup. I have looked at your online menu, but don't see this item. Will it be a menu item in the future? It was absolutely out of this world delicious and should be considered for your menu. I would be back in a flash to enjoy a full bowl!!!!

Penny,

I just wanted to let you know how much my wife (and I) enjoyed our dinner on Tuesday night. I had let you know in advance that it was her birthday and our server mentioned it immediately. The booth was very comfortable and the best part was when they brought her favourite dessert with 'Happy Birthday' written on the plate. It's the little things like that that make use keep coming back you restaurant.

BTW - both meals were fabulous!
Thanks again

I just wanted to send you a note of thanks for your hospitality and friendly conversation during our last visit to Chatterpaul's (Oct 3). Donna and I seem to becoming regulars at your restaurant and our last visit (Donna's 37th Birthday) was the best! We brought along 5 friends who had not been there before and left raving about the food and the atmosphere (you just gained 5 new customers/friends)!

You and Chad make the recipe for success seem so easy and attainable through your food and hospitality that other restauranteurs/chefs should be lining up to pay for a class on how to succeed!

Again, thank you for making us feel special each time we come to your restaurant and we look forward to our next visit!!

Thanks so much, we had a great time. It was nice to stand and circulate to meet other diners. Even standing in line for the wine was fun, as I got to meet other customers. The fellow promoting the beer was awesome, he really was proud of his product.

And of course, as always the food was very tasty. Love the curried lamb. It was quite organized, the way you handed out envelopes and tickets at the door.

On a funny note, my kids were very jealous that we got to go and not them, and they questioned us specifically about all the food we got to try. They love your appetizers so much that even if they didn't get to eat them this time, they wanted to hear about them! We'll be sure to bring them back soon,

We* love* your wonderful place and your perfectly prepared, healthy and mouth-watering fresh food. Chatterpaul's still remains at the top of our discerning list of favourite places to dine in the entire Durham Region and most likely far beyond. Both Paul and I have travelled far and wide and aside from our quest for excellence in accommodations, outstanding quality in food and food services ranks very high in our selection of dining choices. We have indeed been spoiled by staying at 6 star resorts which have been carefully selected and listed in the top 10 of Conde Nast Traveler. Such experiences have taught us to recognize and appreciate the difference in every detail - from the waiting service, to the wine selection, to the quality of each component of the meal and its beautiful presentation; so when I commend The Chef, his staff, you and your establishment for the excellence in the meals we have enjoyed at Chatterpaul's, it is with much experience and knowledge that I share this comment.

We are fortunate to have you and Chad bring everything you do to our community!

Hi Penny,

My wife and I recently came to Chatterpaul's for the first time. To say our experience was AMAZING is an understatement.

The atmosphere was incredible and the service was quite literally the best we have ever experienced. Every person on staff seemed perfectly in sync and it seemed as though everyone was giving us personal attention even though the restaurant was full.

Jenna (just the fact that we remember her name weeks later says something about the experience!) was taking care of us that night and not only did she make sure we were 100% satisfied with everything, but she took the time to find out specifically what we liked about each aspect of the experience. You don't find that level of detail or caring many places.

The food was incredible. We actually asked Jenna to thank the chef!...and the cool part was that she actually did...and he was appreciative....again...just another awesome example.

The evening ended with a visit from you to our table. Again, just one more great example of how much Chatterpaul's cares about the customer experience.

We will be back...over and over again! You two have done a wonderful job!!

Thanks again!

Hi Penny,
Good Morning! Hope you had a great weekend and business was explosive.
It was my pleasure - it was our second visit for the month of April - we celebrated my son's and hubby's bday the first visit. The food was absolutely delicious - the service was outstanding and the atmosphere was overwhelmingly welcoming. The pricing just right! We certainly will be back - we have sent a lot of our friends and familyyour way.

I still remember our first visit when you could not accommodate us - we did not make a reservation and you had just opened - you gave me a card for 2 complimentary drinks on our return - we returned many times and not used it as yet - waiting for Brian and I to make it in by ourselves - the food is so good though every time we come we just bring a group of people!! It's all good! You have an amazing thing going and Brian and I do wish you and Chad all the very best.

Hey guys...thanks for the note, we always try to treat ourselves to an extra special dinner to celebrate the end of 2 months of tax purgatory - 12 hour days all week, then another day and a half on the weekend - might as well be in the restaurant business - lol. We had a great meal, right sized portions (as we mature we are finding we need to eat a little less in the evening) and of course Chad puts lots of nice flavour surprises in there to make the tastes really fantastic.

Penny, you of course are always the gracious host, and always make us feel welcome. Patti did a great job looking after us. And we met an old "friend" from just up the end of the plaza who is now serving with you, so that was nice to reacquaint with him. Anyway, thanks folks. We will keep on recommending you to our friends and associates and will visit as often as we can. All the best and continued success with your business.

Hi Penny. From the time I first met you at the liquor store and you gave me your card and told me about your new venture I saw what an amazing person you were. My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Chatterpaul's within a few weeks of it being opened. I must say that we are truly lucky to have such a fine restaurant in Whitby - so close to home. There was no hesitation therefore, when planning my sister's birthday in December, that we chose Chatterpaul's. The majority of the guests were from out-of-town (Kitchener, Burlington, North York and Scarborough) and were not disappointed in our choice. Kudos to you, the staff and of course, the Chadman, for making our dining experience an exceptional one. Everyone raved about their meals, the wine was fabulous and of course, as usual, you made us feel extremely welcome from the time you greeted us, came over to our table to see how everything was, to saying goodbye. I have also had the pleasure of introducing a friend of mine who I must say, is extremely fussy when it comes to food and service. We went for lunch and he was also quite surprised. He is especially happy that he is within walking distance and will most definitely be returning. See you soon for sure.

Joan and Peter Klasan write...

Thank you for making our evening so enjoyable. We got to celebrate our daughter's birthday that evening and Peter and I were very happy that she included us with her family for an enjoyable time. The food was by far, very diverse and we all enjoyed different meals, to the point that we had a tasting contest to see which out did the other. No one won. Our grandson would very much like you to ask Chad if he would please "share" his salad dresing recipe that he enjoyed.

Hope to see you soon...Joan and Peter.

On behalf of all our guests, Fiona and myself, please extend our sincere appreciation to ALL Staff members who made the evening memorable. The wait staff are to be commended for handling such a diverse group and for being patient during our presentations

Not sure about the rest of the guests that attended last evening, but I for one am looking forward to being able to enjoy a relaxing dinner at Chatterpaul's in the near future.

Had an occassion to provide a special outing for our daughter, who graduated from University of Waterloo, and since Chatterpaul"s was the newest dining spot in Whitby, and we had heard good things about it, we decided to make our reservation. We could not have been more pleasantly surprised! From the time we entered, the greeting was friendly and inviting and the atomosphere outstanding, very retro, downtown/uptown style. The service was attentive, the food was excellent and most importantly everyone, eight (8) in total, had nothing but good things to say about the outing. As parents of 20 something childern, all with significant others, it was the very first time, of many dinners out, everyone at our table had only complimentary comments to say about our evening and the dinner. All of us were very impressed with the variety on the menu, and interestingly we all had a different item. This was amazing on its own, as typically one of the kids will not have, what they consider a positive experience. Amazing dining experience. Keep up the great work! Can't wait to go back.

For someone who has a wheat intolerance, your selection of gluten free items makes dining incredibly enjoyable. Penny (and Chad),

I just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how much my dinner party enjoyed our meal at Chatterpaul's this past Friday night. The restaurant was bustling and the meals were sumptuous. I had the Morrocan Chatter Rib and I wish I could have eaten the entire dish and licked it clean!!!

Upon ordering, I was worried I would look like Wilma Flintstone with a massive rib on my plate! But my fears were allayed by our server whose descriptions and recommendations were spot on.

My friends enjoyed Gumbo, Rack of Lamb, and rich pasta dishes. All gave them a resounding thumbs up.

And the service was impeccable, friendly and professional.

As East goes to press and Chatterpaul's will be our featured restaurant, I am sure you will enjoy even greater positive response to the restaurant.

Personally, we will be return customers.

Chuck Byers - Wine Consultant writes: (www.chuckbyers.com)

What happens when the Chef of a successful and highly respected restaurant leaves and starts one of his own? The answer is a new very successful and highly respected restaurant. Chatterpaul's Fine Casual Dining and Lounge is just that----Whitby's newest very fine casual dining and lounge with one thing----the meals are anything but casual. They are handcrafted with all the carefulness of a four or five star resort and taste just as good!
Tourism and Trade Commissioner Patrick (Pat) Olive and I did the business lunch thing by visiting Chatterpaul's. After 10 days being wined and dined in California I wasn't sure what I wanted to do but am so glad that I was introduced to this new gem!
Decor is what I'd term "Deco Modern" with a brightly lit (natural daylight and electric) dining lounge and comfortable seating area. The business has an open kitchen with all the up to date ammenities as well as a private room for special event entertaining.
Our server/host Robert Notman was well versed in the menu and very accomodating. He was expecially clean cut and well presented----a joy these days of quickie servers. The lunch menu was excellent, filled with a variety of items such as Linguini with Mussels and Shrimp, Baked Roughie with trimmings etc.---- all entrees ranging around a $14.95. The dinner menu was equally appealing.
Wine list consited of some Canadian: Wayne Gretsky, Spanish: Monticello, French: Chateau Timberlay and like wines. Most of the wines could easily be found at the L.C.B.O. and I would suggest some consigment wines that are a bit avant garde in addition to the above which are excellent but predictable choices.
Owner Manager Penny Johansen came over to our table to welcome us. Her natural good looks and friendly manner put us at ease immediately as she discussed plans for her new restaurant. She later introduced us to James Thomas-Chatterpaul who is the face behind the food at Chatterpaul's. James is the former chef of the Shrimp Cocktail and is putting his vast 15 year experience into his own place now! He is both owner and Executive Chef at Chatterpaul's.
It is indeed nice to see a new enterprise show promise and immediate reactive growth. Chatterpaul's has all the signs of become one of Whitby's and Durham's main squeezes!

Dear Penny and Chad,
We recently had the pleasure of celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary at Chatterpaul’s! The private dining area accommodated our large group of 21 people comfortably, the service was friendly and efficient and the convenience of the in-house audio/visual system allowed our party to be entertained by our daughters’ slide presentation of wedding and family photos, adding a very personal touch to the evening. Having very suitably impressed by their dining experience, several of our family and friends have since returned to Chatterpaul’s to sample more of chef Chad’s creative and wonderfully presented menu. Thanks again to Chad, Penny and the staff at Chatterpaul’s for helping to make our special occasion a memorable and most pleasurable one!

Sincerely,
Mario and Connie Zammit & Family

Dear Penny and Chad,

On behalf of our 2008 Fashion Show Committee and our Board of Directors, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation for your very generous support for the "Leather and Lace" Fashion Show and coctail Reception held at the McKenney Centre on May 8.

We have heard from many attendees that the food was wonderfully tantalizing. We could not have accomplished this without your generosity. It is our hope that you will acquire new clientele as a result of the support you provided to Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation.

All funds raised from this event will go towards patient services for Lakeridge Health Whitby.

Thank you once again.
Respectfully,

Lori Armour - Co-chair | Elizabeth Roy - Co-chair

Dear Durham Region Heart and Stroke Volunteer Leadership Team,

Wanted to let you know that Lori and I had the awesome privilege to dine at Chatterpaul's last night in Whitby. As you may know this is owned by one of the great chef's that participated in our big Chef Cook off this past February. That being Chef Chad.

I have to tell you if you have not had the chance to dine there yet it is a definite must do. The food, service and hospitality was second to none. In fact in all of my business travels around the world this restaurant would definitely rank in the very top for me.

Hope you get a chance to go say Hi to Chad and experience his awesome menu.

Spread the news...

Sincerely,
Brian Campkin

Hi Penny - Just wanted to say thanks for accomodating the family yesterday for dinner. The meal and service were both excellent. Infact, I think you may have earned a few new regulars from my family, as they have now been introduced to Chad's culinary experience. Again, wonderful dinner.

It was nice to meet you tonight. Just a quick note to tell you how much Shelley and I enjoyed our experience this evening. I wanted to compliment you on the business card idea for your servers - it was the first time I had seen this and thought it was amazing on so many levels. It makes your server feel proud of what they are doing, and allows us to form a relationship with your staff. tonight Troy served us and he was awesome. Very attentive, detailed and I would be sure to ask for him again when we come back (which we will definately do).
All in all, a great experience. Food was awesome and well presented. As we told you, our son Adam, was a sous chef and he had raved about the place when he was there. Cheers!
